“I can not open this app” – Security issue on Windows

Welcome back to everyone, today I would like to share with you my recent experience, quite a Windows message “I can not open this app“.

This problem that i have come across these days, has made me waste a lot of time searching on the web to try and fix it.

Windows has gone crazy: “I can not open this app”

My pc worked quietly then all of a sudden after a Windows 10 upgrade many apps did not work anymore and I was notified of the message: I can not open this app.

During my research, thousands of different solutions were given, including reinstalling the operating system.

Of course i did not stop at these solutions because i think that in 2016, with a system like Windows 10 it’s not necessary to reinstall an operating system just because for some mysterious reason some apps do not work.

“I can not open this app” – The solution

Fortunately, the solution is quite simple to apply and consists of:

  1. Start regedit (for example, from windows search)
  2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
  3. On the right we see the EnableLUA voice, to 99% its value is set to 0, change it to 1
  4. Restart the system

The problem seems to be due to the fact that some apps are classified as universal and these do not work with UAC (User Account Control) disabled, setting the EnableLUA flag to 1 enables UAC and applications will resume running.

The UAC enabled setting is enabled by default, and it is best to always keep active to maintain a high level of security of the system.

Please leave a comment if this brief guide has solved your problem.
